Rising Cum Laude!

  • Posted on: 11 June 2019

I grew up in Grootfontein and attended primary school at Makalani Primary School. After completing grade 7, I moved on to Grootfontein Secondary School to pursue the next level of education. From grade 8 to 10, I received a number of school awards such as highest in a certain subject and Junior Academic colors.

I passed grade 10 with good points and managed to secure a seat in the grade 11 science class. I unfortunately gave in to peer pressure, became rebellious towards the teachers and started using alcohol in grade 11 and 12. I remember very well, how my Math teacher Mr. Hausiku caught me red handed with a beer in town, a day before we were to write our Mathematics August examination.

With this attitude and behavior, I failed Grade 12 and did not manage to secure enough points to study Engineering, let alone the mathematics that had an E symbol. After this devastating outcome, I sat down with my dad in Ongwediva and managed to improve my points in 2012. Subsequently, I managed to secure myself a place in the Introduction to Engineering studies at NUST.

At this point in time, my thirst for succeeding was at the highest level since my peers in high school where ahead of me. With this change in attitude, I managed to achieve excellent results and be recognised as the best 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Student in my course and successfully graduate Cum Laude!
